British consumers continue love affair with annual holiday breaks

United Kingdom’s leading holiday company Thomson and First Choice revealed the results of its recently conducted survey showing that despite the global economic crisis, the British residents would still like to spend their scheduled annual holiday breaks and relax in the sunshine in their swimwear.

According to the data, most of the consumers have retained their commitment in pursuing their much needed annual holidays. This is in spite of the retailers’ move to make drastic offers to save their businesses from closing down.

About 88 percent of the respondents said that they would save on other luxuries such as eating in restaurants or improving their homes rather than give up their holiday vacations. About 59 percent said that they would watch what their spending. Both instances, the respondents did not even consider giving up the holiday breaks.

The results bring a ray of sunshine for the travel companies who are apprehensive of the bleak times ahead.

Thomson and First Choice Customer Director Tim Williamson said that holidays are considered important because this is the only time of the year where families spend quality time together and to really focus the time on the kids, on the loved ones and basically just recharging the batteries, so to speak.

In fact, about 82 percent of the respondents say that going on an annual holiday extravaganza is no longer a luxury but a necessity.
