British families prefer spending holiday in UK in 2009 - research

A research study conducted by a website was referenced by Family Holiday Association, stating that that Britons would prefer spending their family holidays in United Kingdom this year in a bid to save more money but still have some quality time.

Organization Director John McDonald said that HireScores, a recruitment website, revealed that about 57 percent of the parents are apprehensive about the pressures that they’ll encounter once there are finished with the family holidays.

He added that with this in mind, British families would prefer spending quality time in tourist spots in U.K. rather than spending more to spend vacations in a bikini on the beach in Caribbean or Mediterranean.

McDonald said that quality time with significant people is important that’s why 86 percent of the respondents said that family holidays will always be part of their yearly plans.

Despite the economic crisis, parents are still bent in having these vacations with their kids even it means cutting some expenses for the trip. Downgrading the vacation package is not so bad if it means spending memorable moments with the loved ones.

Interestingly, about 18 percent of the parent-respondents said that they are willing to settle a £100 penalty if they take out their children out of school without a valid reason in order to spend quality time.

Expenditure on European holidays still affordable - reports

Despite the preconceived notion that spending a holiday in Europe is expensive, a latest survey revealed that there are several countries in the region that are still affordable. According to the holiday costs survey, conducted annually by Post Office Travel Services, Bulgaria topped the list of cheapest costs for a holiday extravaganza. The European country beat last year’s topnotcher Thailand.

Countries in Europe that made the cut are Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Croatia. Travel Services Head Sarah Munro said that the survey only disproves notions that spending your holiday in Europe can be very expensive. In fact, the decline on the British pound helped lessen the prices of goods in the region.

Munro clarified that there are other European destinations where travelers could shell out more money, such as France which topped the most expensive list. Here’s the list provided by Post Office Travel Services revealing the price of basket of goods composed of drinks, dinner for two and other holiday items. This will give travelers an idea how much they would spend on basic travel goods in a particular country.

  • Bulgaria £42.23
  • Thailand: £43.92
  • Africa: £46.13
  • Kenya: £57.66
  • Turkey: £64.31

Travel site encourages vacationers to avail of holiday insurance

British travel site TravelBite advised travellers that before having a holiday in your home country or outside the country, they should avail themselves of holiday insurance in order to have security when something unexpected happens.

The travel site also specified countries outside the European Union which could charge higher premium when covering travel insurances. These countries are Croatia and Turkey amongst others.

This report came out after a series of survey conducted revealed that more consumers are still saving up to spend vacation despite the financial crisis. However, the vacationers are likely to spend on only one major vacation per year as opposed to previous years where they get to fly out more than once.

The travel website stressed that the current economic situation was definitely a major factor among vacationers as to where to spend their holidays. The weaker currency means that they’ll likely shell out more money but despite this predicament, the travel industry has just become competitive thanks to reasonable travel packages and holiday insurance offered to travelers.

Top destinations by British travelers include Greece and Spain. Despite the declining value of the pound against the euro, the vacationers from the country still go to the aforementioned countries.
