Look Scorching At The Beach
It seems like everyone knows someone who is heading for or just rushed back from a warm vacation in Mexico, Cuba, Hawaii, or the Dominican Republic. Kelli Nykoluk says that is no surprise to her. She says the busiest time of year at her Edmonton swimwear shop is between November and March.
She said that it doesn’t matter how bad the economy gets, people still find a way to take a holiday and there are a lot of good travel deals out there at this time of year.
Nykoluk, manager of Swimco, formerly Swimwear, said that at present, the fashionable are packing navy coloured suits and this is the first time, in so long, that the colour has been popular in a while.
Like blue and black suits with yellow or red are big, as are bright colours, patterns and prints.
Nykoluk explains that usually people choose brighter colours to wear on the beach when they go away because everybody else is wearing the same funky stuff. They also tend to be more daring in the styles they choose because they’re not likely to run into people who know them.
The monokini, which is one of the most daring styles and the most popular that Nykoluk has trouble keeping it in stock, basically a two-piece connected by a little strip of fabric in the middle.
The bikini has remained popular with women under 35. Much older women are wearing two pieces also but tend to choose suits with tankini tops that are more flattering.
Nykoluk says they still carry one-piece suits because some people really like them, but they have way more tankinis that one-pieces.
Bottoms in skirt designs are also in, as are ruffles around the neckline, stripes and big, bold patterns are hot, especially when they’re combo-ed, as in a printed top paired with a striped bottom or vice versa, she added.

for the warmer end of the trip pack easily for both men and women, as do a variety of soft adventure sandals. Wear heavier footwear on days you’ll be travelling to or from a warmer climate.
